Woman, son killed in three-vehicle accident

JOHOR BARU: A woman and her son were killed, while three others were injured in a three-vehicle collision yesterday afternoon at KM65 of Jalan Johor Baru–Ayer Hitam near Simpang Renggam.

In a statement this morning, Kluang police chief Assistant Commissioner Bahrin Mohd Noh said the accident, which occurred around 5.30pm, involved a Perodua Kancil, a Mazda factory van, and a Toyota Hilux four-wheel drive.

Initial investigations revealed that the 51-year-old woman was driving with her two sons, aged 9 and 15, from Simpang Renggam towards Kampung Bukit Kenangan in a Perodua Kancil when she stopped to turn right into a junction.

The factory van, driven by a 53-year-old man travelling in the same direction, is believed to have lost control and crashed into the rear of the Kancil, causing it to veer into the opposite lane.

The Kancil was then struck by an oncoming Toyota Hilux driven by a 62-year-old man. The van subsequently collided with the four-wheel drive.

The woman and her 15-year-old son, who was seated in the front passenger seat, died at the scene from severe injuries, while her younger son, seated in the back, sustained serious head and leg injuries.

The van driver suffered injuries to his face, chest, and right leg, while the Hilux driver sustained minor injuries.

All the injured victims were taken to Hospital Enche’ Besar Hajjah Khalsom in Kluang for treatment.
