US president Donald Trump arrived at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) at 9.53am to attend the 47th Asean Summit and related meetings.
Trump was greeted by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and senior officials upon disembarking from Air Force One at 10.06am.
This marks Trump’s first Asean meeting since 2017 and his first trip to Asia since beginning his second term. The last US president to attend the regional summit was Joe Biden in 2022.
In Kuala Lumpur, Trump is scheduled to hold bilateral talks with Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and also join a working lunch with Southeast Asian leaders.
As this year’s Asean chair, Malaysia has set “Inclusivity and Sustainability” as the theme for the summit.
The White House said Trump will also witness the signing of a peace declaration between Thailand and Cambodia, a deal the US president has claimed credit for helping to broker following a deadly border conflict earlier this year.
He is expected to depart Malaysia on Monday morning for a one-day visit to Japan before heading to South Korea for the APEC Summit.
