Year Six pupil drowns in mine while playing with friends


TANGKAK: A Year Six pupil from Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Penchu was found dead after drowning in a mine today at 3.20pm.

The victim, Siti Nur Khadijah Ahmad Faisal, was playing in the area with her friends. Her body was found 50 metres from the location of the incident.

Tangkak district police chief, Superintendent Roslan Mohd Talib, said preliminary investigations found that the victim, her 10-year-old brother, and two friends aged 9 and 13 were bathing in the three-metre-deep mine.

“Investigation at the location did not find any criminal elements,” he said when contacted.

The case has been classified as sudden death, and the body was taken to Tangkak hospital for a post-mortem examination.
