TUMPAT: The killing of an excavator driver in Kampung Kok Bedullah last night is believed to have stemmed from an old grudge over inherited land.
Tumpat police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Khairi Shafie said the suspect was also enraged after claiming that the victim had edited and circulated an indecent video of his daughter.
Following this, the suspect went to the home of the victim, 46-year-old Mohd Suhairi Hashim — who was also his wife’s cousin — and attacked him with a parang while the victim was cleaning his excavator outside the house.
The assault caused severe head injuries and severed the victim’s left arm.
“The motive for the murder is believed to have stemmed from a long-standing feud over inherited land and a viral video of the suspect’s daughter that was allegedly edited indecently.
“Investigations at the scene found serious injuries to the victim’s head and right leg, while his left arm was severed, believed to have been caused by slashes inflicted by the suspect using a parang.
“The 45-year-old suspect was arrested at his home, and police seized a parang believed to have been used in the attack,” he said in a statement today.
Mohd Khairi said the suspect has been remanded for seven days from today to assist investigations under Section 302 of the Penal Code.
