KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysian police and Singapore’s Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) have strengthened their collaboration in combating transnational drug syndicates through enhanced information sharing, joint investigations, coordinated operations and professional exchanges.

Bukit Aman Narcotic Crime Investigation Department (NCID) director Datuk Hussein Omar Khan led the Malaysian delegation to the bilateral meeting held at CNB Headquarters here on Oct 23.

Hussein told the New Straits Times that the discussions focused on deepening cooperation between both enforcement agencies to address the evolving challenges posed by cross-border drug trafficking networks.

“This meeting reaffirms the strong partnership between Malaysia and Singapore in the global fight against drugs.

“We agreed to strengthen the sharing of intelligence, collaboration in specific investigations, and conduct joint operations targeting syndicates operating across our borders,” he said.

Hussein added that both sides also explored mechanisms for greater exchange of operational experience and best practices to enhance the effectiveness of enforcement strategies and capacity building.

“Drug syndicates are increasingly sophisticated, often exploiting technology and regional routes.

“Only through continued cooperation and the exchange of expertise can we effectively dismantle their networks,” he added.

Hussein also expressed appreciation to CNB Singapore for its long-standing support and operational cooperation with the NCID.

Accompanying him were Deputy Director (Asset Forfeiture/Legal/Detention) Deputy Commissioner Mohd Zani Che Din, Deputy Director (Enforcement/Prevention/General Policing) Senior Assistant Commissioner Datuk Mohd Zaki Ashar, Principal Assistant Director (Intelligence/International Relations) Senior Assistant Commissioner Mohd Afzanizam Yahaya, and Assistant Director (Zone 2 Intelligence) Assistant Commissioner Mohd Taufik Maidin.

The CNB delegation was led by its director, Sebastian Tan, together with six senior officers.

The meeting concluded with both sides reaffirming their shared resolve to continue close coordination in intelligence, enforcement, and policy cooperation to safeguard both nations from the scourge of drugs.

“Malaysia and Singapore share not just a border, but a common mission, to protect our people and future generations from the dangers of narcotics,” Hussein said.
