KUALA LUMPUR: Police are investigating a break-in and cable theft at the Taman Desa MRT portal gate, which is believed to have caused operational disruptions for the Putrajaya MRT Line today.
Brickfields police chief Assistant Commissioner Hoo Chang Hook said police received a report from auxiliary police stationed at the Sungai Besi MRT station at 12.41pm.
“Checks by auxiliary police found that the portal gate was open and believed to have been cut and breached about 6.30am.
“They found communication cables belonging to MRT in a pile near Pier 0373.”
He said the recovered cables were sent to the Serdang Depot by the Signalling and Communication Unit for company reference and to measure the remaining length to determine the amount stolen.
“The case is under investigation.”
Earlier, Prasarana Malaysia group president and chief executive officer Amir Hamdan said the theft of communication and signalling cables might have caused the service disruption that forced the manual operation of the Putrajaya MRT line.
He said the company’s technical team, together with experts from original equipment manufacturers, was carrying out comprehensive repair and restoration to stabilise operations.
