The top leadership of Parti Sosialis Malaysia will discuss a proposal for the party to forge ties with Perikatan Nasional to avoid seat clashes, PSM chairman Dr Michael Jeyakumar Devaraj said
Jeyakumar told FMT the proposal will be decided at a central committee meeting to be convened soon.
“Nonetheless, PSM maintains a firm stand against race-based and religious politics,” he said.
He was asked to comment on Perak PSM exco member K Kunasekaran’s call yesterday for the party to forge an electoral pact with PN.
Kunasekaran said entering into an alliance to coordinate seats and avoid three-cornered fights did not mean the party was compromising its socialist ideals.
Instead, he said, it is a strategic step to ensure the people’s voice continues to be heard and that the struggle of the working class is not drowned out within the current two-bloc political system.
In August, PSM had declined to join a loose opposition coalition announced by Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin, saying it was uncomfortable with the fact that many of the parties involved were playing up racial issues.
