KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 25 — Three men, including a key suspect, have been remanded to assist in the investigation of the murder of a mother and her adopted child at their rented home in Kampung Sekolah Juru in Bukit Mertajam, Penang last Saturday.

According to Kosmo!, the remand period for the suspects — believed to be acquaintances of the victims — began today and will last until October 31.

The remand order for the suspects, who are Nepali nationals, was issued by Magistrate Nurul Rasyidah Mohd. Akit under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.

Earlier, the suspects were brought to the Bukit Mertajam Magistrate’s Court escorted by police at around 9:45am.

It is understood that the arrest of the key suspect may reveal the true motive behind the deaths of Sariya Che Hin, 51, and her adopted daughter, Nur Afrina Alisha Abdul Rahim, 11.

Yesterday, Penang Police Chief Datuk Azizee Ismail confirmed three more arrests had been made to assist in the investigation.

Previously, two suspects, including the victim’s 57-year-old husband, were remanded for seven days beginning October 19.

On October 18, a mother and her adopted child were found dead at their home in Kampung Sekolah Juru in Bukit Mertajam at around 7:30pm.

Both were found with stab and slash wounds on their bodies, including near decapitation and severed hands.
