Kedah floods worsen, more evacuated as water rises in Pokok Sena, Baling


ALOR STAR: The number of flood victims in Kedah has surged, with 1,858 people from 587 families now housed at 14 temporary evacuation centres (PPS) in four districts as of 8am today.

This marks a significant increase from yesterday’s 1,283 victims (407 families), after fresh floods hit Pokok Sena and Baling, where five new PPS have been opened.

The Kedah Disaster Management Committee Secretariat said Kulim continues to record the highest number of victims evacuated so far, with 1,470 people from 449 families.

Eight districts in the state have been affected by the floods: Sik, Kuala Muda, Kulim, Pendang, Bandar Baharu, Baling, Kubang Pasu, and Pokok Sena.

According to the Public InfoBanjir website, five rivers in the state have exceeded the danger level as of 7am today. Two are in Pendang, and one each in Baling, Sik, and Kubang Pasu.
