GEORGE TOWN: A car was struck by a falling boulder during a rockfall incident at Paya Terubong 2 here this evening.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
The incident occurred around 7.52pm following hours of continuous rain in the area.
According to an initial report from the northeast district disaster management secretariat, the rockfall was triggered by prolonged rainfall and overflowing water from the hillside.
“The affected slope is located approximately 60 metres from the nearest premises.
“Emergency teams were deployed to the scene. The Fire and Rescue Department cordoned off the area to prevent public access,” the report said.
Authorities have urged residents and motorists to stay clear of hillside areas, particularly during periods of heavy rain, to minimise the risk of similar incidents.
No structural damage to nearby buildings was reported, and cleanup operations are ongoing.
