KAJANG: Police are seeking the next-of-kin of an unidentified man whose body was found in a drain near the Sungai Ramal stretch of the SILK Highway here on Wednesday.
Kajang police chief Assistant Commissioner Naazron Yusof said police received information from a member of the public about the discovery at 2.22pm.
He said a team from the Kajang police headquarters and the Selangor police forensic unit was deployed to the scene.
“The body was found lying in a roadside drain. The deceased, believed to be a man, was wearing a blue shirt and shorts and was barefoot.
“No personal belongings or weapons were found nearby,” he said in a statement today.
Naazron said the body was already in a decomposed state.
“Footage from closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras near the area showed that about 6.03pm on Oct 19, a person was seen walking along the highway before climbing a metal barrier and falling into the drain,” he said.
The body was sent to the Forensic Department of Hospital Kajang for further examination.
A post-mortem conducted at 11.30am today confirmed that the cause of death was injuries consistent with a fall from a height.
He said the identity of the deceased has yet to be established.
“The man has a tattoo of a compass with an arrow and the word ‘JOSEPH’ on his left arm,” he said.
The case has been classified as a sudden death (SDR).
Naazron has asked anyone with information, or who may have lost a relative matching the description, to contact Sergeant Borhan Mohamad at 014-328 9730 or the nearest police station.
