Bersatu leader tells Muhyiddin to come clean on fugitive son-in-law

KUALA LUMPUR: Bersatu Supreme Council member and former minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Abdullah has called on Tan Sri Yassin to come clean on the whereabouts of his son-in-law, Datuk Seri Muhammad Adlan Berhan, who is wanted by authorities over an ongoing investigation.

Saifuddin said the former prime minister owes the public an explanation, especially given Adlan’s prolonged absence and reports of his lavish lifestyle abroad despite being sought by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).

“It’s time for Tan Sri to speak out. The people deserve to know where his son-in-law is and why he continues to remain unreachable,” he said.

He added that while the government has remained consistent in upholding the rule of law, it was “deeply troubling” that Adlan appeared to be living comfortably overseas while disregarding legal processes in Malaysia.

“Pictures and accounts of his movements abroad — travelling, dining in expensive places, attending events — are now circulating widely. The question is simple: if he has nothing to hide, why not come forward?” Saifuddin said, adding that such behaviour raises doubts.

He said the issue was brought up again yesterday when , the Pagoh member of Parliament, was speaking on the budget, and was interjected by Kota Melaka MP Khoo Poay Tiong.

“But he did not respond. If the father-in-law remains silent on the matter, how are we supposed to respond?” he asked.

Saifuddin said that while Bersatu members sympathised with Muhyiddin, the issue must be resolved immediately as it risks dragging the party’s image through the mud.

After pressing Muhyiddin in Parliament over Adlan’s whereabouts, Khoo called for an emergency motion to debate the case and the government’s efforts to secure his repatriation.

“Under Standing Order 18(1), I rise to address an issue that has sparked public concern — the case of Datuk Seri Muhammad Adlan Berhan, who remains a fugitive wanted by the MACC,” Khoo said at a press conference in Parliament yesterday.

Adlan and his lawyer, Mansoor Saat, are wanted by the MACC to assist in an investigation into a project involving the registration, recruitment and storage of foreign worker biometric data at a ministry.

The renewed calls for accountability followed an NST report claiming that Adlan had been freely travelling between countries and living a lavish life abroad.

Adlan left Malaysia in 2023 and has not returned since.

Saifuddin said transparency from Muhyiddin would help put an end to speculation and reaffirm his commitment to accountability as a national political figure.
