The Taiping Rest and Recreation (R&R) area on the North–South Expressway has been temporarily closed following continuous rainfall that caused water accumulation in the area.

PLUS Malaysia Berhad (PLUS), in a post on X, said the closure was necessary to ensure the safety of all highway users.

As of 7.54am, the surau (prayer facility) at the northbound Taiping lay-by remains closed, the concessionaire said via its official traffic update.

At 7.21am, the emergency and left lanes between KM214.3 and KM215.0 (southbound) also remained closed.

Earlier, at 7.14am, PLUS warned motorists of flooded areas at the Taiping southbound lay-by, affecting the stretch between Taiping (northbound) and Changkat Jering.

“The Taiping R&R (both directions) will remain closed until further notice due to water pooling following heavy rainfall in the area,” PLUS said.

Motorists are urged to plan their journeys accordingly and to use nearby facilities at the Bukit Gantang or Bukit Merah R&R areas while the Taiping stop remains closed.
