YAN: A construction worker was found dead with strangulation marks on his neck and injuries to his lips at a house in Kampung Jalan Yan, Teroi Guar Cempedak, yesterday (Oct 23).
District police chief Superintendent Mohammad Harmizi Abdullah said the 1pm incident arose from a quarrel between the victim and a colleague, believed to have been triggered by dissatisfaction over the victim’s behaviour.
“Initial investigations revealed that all the suspects and the victim were construction workers residing under the same roof. The altercation occurred when one of the men scolded the victim for being late in getting ready for work in Bukit Jenun. Angered by the remark, the victim allegedly grabbed a knife and swung it at his colleague, who was holding an iron rod at the time.
“The suspect then took a cable wire and strangled the victim until he lost consciousness,” he said.
Harmizi added that police subsequently arrested two local men and four Bangladeshis, aged between 29 and 44, shortly after one of them lodged a police report about the incident.
He said they would seek a remand order at the Sungai Petani magistrate’s court to facilitate further investigations under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
