HONG KONG: Retired Hong Kong singer Shirley Kwan is reportedly in a stable condition after several weeks in hospital.
According to Hong Kong media on Tuesday, the 59-year-old was previously admitted to the intensive care unit for emergency treatment earlier this month, where she was described as being in a critical condition.
Although her specific illness has not been disclosed, earlier reports suggested a heart-related issue.
On.cc reported that her family is now planning to transfer her to a private hospital for recuperation.
They have informed her friends that she will not be taking any visitors at this time.
Her 23-year-old son, Kwan Chunyin, who is based in the US, flew to Hong Kong after hearing of her hospitalisation and was seen visiting her again on Tuesday.
Shirley, best known for her 1989 hit ‘Happy Are Those in Love’, rose to fame in the 1990s.
She moved to Canada in 2002 after becoming pregnant out of wedlock.
In 2014, she disclosed that her son’s father is a religious teacher from Bhutan.
She announced her retirement from the entertainment industry in 2020.
