The Government Integrated Radio Network (GIRN) has been announced as the primary communications network for the 47th Asean Summit in Kuala Lumpur, which begins this weekend.
The decision follows the network’s proven reliability during the 46th Asean Summit held in May.
GIRN allows for uninterrupted, encrypted communications and coordination among key government agencies.
Its broadband capabilities allow for 19 agencies to connect to command centres through secure voice, data, and live video links throughout the duration of the summit.
The system also facilitates cross-agency coordination, ensuring seamless collaboration between law enforcement, health, logistics and diplomatic teams.
GIRN’s mobile communication base stations have been strategically placed across the summit venues, allowing for secure connectivity to the system even during congested periods or in high-load environments.
The system was designed, engineered and operated by experts at Sapura Group with close coordination with the National Security Council (MKN), ensuring complete sovereign control over critical communications.
The system highlights the country’s policy of technological self-reliance and reduced dependency on foreign infrastructure.
It also sets a regional benchmark for broadband-enabled, multi-agency communication infrastructure in the Asean context and reinforces Malaysia’s capability to secure its own essential communications systems.
The 47th Asean Summit marks the culmination of Malaysia’s Asean chairmanship this year under the theme “Inclusivity and Sustainability”.
The three-day summit, to be held from Oct 26 to 28, is expected to be the largest gathering of world leaders, including US president Donald Trump, alongside leaders from Asean member states.
