MP: Parliament must debate Adlan Berhan case that occurred under Muhyiddin's watch

KUALA LUMPUR: Kota Melaka Member of Parliament Khoo Poay Tiong has called for an emergency motion to debate in Parliament the case of fugitive businessman Datuk Seri Muhammad Adlan Berhan and the government’s efforts to coordinate his repatriation.

“Under Standing Order 18(1), I rise to address an issue that has sparked public concern — the case of Datuk Seri Muhammad Adlan Berhan, who remains a fugitive wanted by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC),” Khoo said during a press conference in Parliament today.

“Many have asked why I continue to raise this matter. There are three main reasons.

“Firstly, this occurred during the time when Pagoh (Tan Sri Yassin) was in power.

“Secondly, it involves government funds — the people’s money.

“And thirdly, Pagoh betrayed the Pakatan Harapan government and became prime minister through the back door,” he said.

Holding up a copy of the New Straits Times, Khoo referred to a report which stated that Adlan had fled to New Zealand after his father-in-law was charged with corruption.

He also commended the media for uncovering Adlan’s whereabouts following his disappearance in 2023, including publishing photographs purportedly showing him in a Middle Eastern country, allegedly in the company of local dignitaries.

“Well done,” he said, pointing to the report.

Khoo added that another point of concern was the extradition process, as the country in question reportedly has no diplomatic ties with Malaysia that would facilitate the return of fugitives.

“Therefore, this issue must be debated in Parliament.

“I urge Adlan: if you are not guilty, return to Malaysia and face the charges. This matter must be expedited as it concerns public funds and the national interest.

“It happened under Pagoh’s premiership, and we need to know how the people’s money was misappropriated,” Khoo said.
