Malaysia assures top security for all leaders at 47th Asean Summit, says Anwar


: Malaysia has given its assurance the highest level of security for all world leaders including United States President Donald attending the 47th Asean Summit in Kuala Lumpur.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ibrahim said all security agencies have been instructed to maintain strict control throughout the summit to ensure the safety of every delegate and the smooth running of the event.

“Security is a top priority as all world leaders will be here in Malaysia to attend the Asean Summit.

“We will not compromise on security. All leaders and delegates are fully guaranteed safety,” he said during a briefing with chief editors here today.

Asked on a planned gathering this weekend to protest ‘s presence at the summit, said the government always respects the public’s right to voice their opinions, as long as it is done peacefully and within the law.

“Malaysia remains open to differing views but rejects any form of extreme action that could harm the country’s image.

“If people want to express their stance, that is their right. But we cannot allow anyone to sabotage or disrupt the summit,” he said.

The 47th Asean Summit and Related Summits are scheduled to take place from Oct 26 to 28 and will mark the culmination of Malaysia’s chairmanship of Asean in 2025.

It was reported that more than 30 heads of state and government, including Asean leaders and key dialogue partners such as the United States (US), , Japan, , India, Australia, New Zealand and Canada, will converge at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre here, to discuss regional peace, economic resilience and inclusive growth.
