Asean nations should collaborate to address regional scams, says Anwar

: Asean member states should work together to address the prevalence of scams in the region, says Datuk Seri Ibrahim.

The Prime Minister said this would be discussed at the upcoming 47th Asean Summit.

“I am sure it will gain traction at the summit because it is an issue of concern – not just in Malaysia but also other member states.

“Scam centres are affecting the stability and economic health of the region and is a matter of concern among Asean members,” said during a special briefing with top editors here Wednesday night (Oct 22).

He was asked if Malaysia, as Asean chair, would exert pressure on Cambodia to shut down scam centres.

Several South Koreans have been repatriated, with some facing legal action.

Cambodian authorities are cooperating by deporting those involved, highlighting the crisis’ severity and the collaborative efforts to dismantle scam networks and protect people.
