MELAKA, Oct 22 — A fight between a man and a security guard at Masjid Selat Melaka yesterday reportedly began after the guard reprimanded the man’s wife for not wearing a headscarf.
Melaka Tengah District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Christopher Patit said the 43-year-old man from Kuala Lumpur was stopped at the mosque entrance when he and his wife arrived to perform zuhur prayers, Kosmo! reported.
The guard told the woman she needed to wear a headscarf to enter the mosque compound, but the man claimed his wife had already covered her head with a hoodie.
“The security guard then returned to the guard post to inform his supervisor. The complainant got out of his car and struck the vehicle’s roof three times while saying, ‘I want to pray’,” Patit was quoted as saying.
“The security guard then approached the complainant to reprimand his behaviour, but was allegedly punched first before retaliating with a kick,” he added.
Police found it was part of the guard’s duty to ensure visitors followed the mosque’s dress code and modesty rules.
The husband reportedly withdrew his police report after the misunderstanding was resolved amicably
