JOHOR BAHRU, Oct 22 — Two children were found drowned at the Tasik Menawan lake in Taman Pelangi Indah here early this morning.
The deceased have been identified as Muhammad Rayyan Iskandar Mohamed Hafizee, 9, and Muhammad Khalish Rayqarl Hasimudi, 10.
Johor Jaya Fire and Rescue Station operations commander Mohd Shafie Md Din said an emergency distress call regarding the incident was received at 9.44pm last night.
He said a total of 14 firemen from the Johor Jaya Fire and Rescue Station, assisted by the department’s Water Rescue Team and Emergency Medical Response Services (EMRS) unit, rushed to the scene.
“Upon arriving at the scene, there were two slippers believed to belong to the victims at the lake.
“The firemen then conducted a water surface searching technique at the lake area as part of the search and rescue operation,” he said in a statement this morning.
Mohd Shafie said the operation was continued by the Water Rescue Team by conducting a search using the arch pattern technique at a distance of 7.65 metres.
“The children were found under a rock at a depth of 10 metres, about five metres away from the edge of the lake, at 2.28am.
“The remains of both victims were later handed over to the police for further action,” he said.
