KUALA LUMPUR:

Malaysia’s Yusof Hafizi Shaharuddin powered his way to the gold medal on the final day of the 2025 UCI Para Cycling Track World Championships in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on Sunday.

The 28-year-old stole the thunder in the men’s 200m sprint of the MC1 event (for athletes with the most severe impairment who compete on a standard bicycle), crossing the finish line ahead of Spain’s Ricardo Ten Argiles and Ivan Ermakov of Independent Neutral Athletes.

Last Friday, Yusof could only finish second in the men’s 1-km time trial of the MC1 category, clocking 1:15.432s to finish just 0.25s behind gold medallist Ten Argiles (1:15.182s), while Ermakov took the bronze medal in 1:17.657s.

The four-day championships began on Oct 16.
