KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 19 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ibrahim spoke with Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Afghanistan’s Acting Prime Minister Mullah Mohammad Hassan Akhund late last night to express Malaysia’s concern over the escalating tensions along the border between the two countries.

During the phone conversations, underscored the importance of seeking a peaceful resolution through diplomatic channels and dialogue to prevent prolonged conflict that would only bring suffering to the people and undermine regional peace and stability.

“At the same time, I expressed my deepest condolences and sympathy over the recent floods in Pakistan and the earthquake that struck eastern Afghanistan.

“Malaysia will continue to stand in solidarity with Pakistan and Afghanistan, as well as with the international community, in delivering humanitarian aid, strengthening Islamic brotherhood and supporting all initiatives towards regional peace and stability, including the ongoing peace negotiations facilitated by the Government of Qatar,” he said in a Facebook post.

Qatar’s Foreign Ministry, in a statement, said Pakistan and Afghanistan have agreed to an immediate ceasefire following a round of negotiations in Doha, Bernama reported Sunday.
