TANJUNG MALIM, Oct 19 — Police have recorded statements from eight individuals to assist with the investigation into the death of hiker Mustaqqeem Mansor, 34, who was found dead at Mount Liang last Thursday.
Muallim deputy police chief Deputy Superintendent Suhaimi Muhamad said the eight were fellow participants and companions of the victim who had taken part in the hiking expedition.
“The remaining three hikers who also joined the expedition will be called in later to complete the investigation,” he told Sinar Harian, adding that they left immediately after reaching the foot of the mountain due to work commitments.
Sinar Harian also reported that the organiser of the hiking activity has been identified and will be called in for questioning soon.
“At this stage, the investigation is being conducted under a sudden death report (SDR),” he said.
Earlier, police confirmed that the Mustaqqeem’s death was caused by hypothermia, or extreme cold, following the post-mortem carried out at Slim River Hospital.
Mustaqqeem was found dead at 3.30pm last Thursday at the summit of Mount Liang. His body was airlifted from the 1,933-meter peak on Friday by an AW189 helicopter from the Fire and Rescue Department’s Special Air Unit.
He began the hike on October 10 with eight other participants, guided by two mountain guides, from Bukit Fraser, Pahang. He was last seen at the peak of the mountain around 10.30pm on Tuesday.
