The Selangor government will implement immediate measures, including using metal detectors and installing CCTV cameras, to strengthen safety at a Bandar Utama secondary school following the fatal stabbing of a 16-year-old female student earlier this week.
Menteri besar Amirudin Shari said other measures include implementing on-site student registration and using a smart notification system linking parents and teachers.
He said the tragedy has deeply traumatised the school community, especially students who witnessed the attack, leading to a noticeable drop in attendance over the past few days.
“To restore parents’, teachers’, and students’ confidence in school safety and help them overcome the trauma, the state government will hold sessions with them to commemorate the victim and discuss safety improvements,” he said in a statement issued after a state executive council meeting today.
He added that the initiative will involve the district education office, the Selangor education department, the education ministry, police, and the school’s parent-teacher association, to ensure schools remain safe environments for children.
