PETALING JAYA:

Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) secretary-general Noor Azman Rahman has been suspended with immediate effect amid the ongoing controversy surrounding alleged falsified documents submitted to Fifa.

Fifa’s disciplinary committee said contrary to documents submitted by FAM claiming seven naturalised players’ grandparents were born in Malaysia, the global football body’s investigation found original records indicating they were born in Spain, Argentina, Brazil and the Netherlands.

FAM deputy president S Sivasundaram today said the national football body has formed committee to prevent similar issues from happening.

“The secretary-general will be suspended of his duties effective today in order to allow the committee to carry out its duties,” he told a press conference at Wisma FAM here.

Noor Azman previously said the dispute stemmed from an “technical error” in the process of submitting documents carried out by FAM administrative staff.
