Thunderstorm alert: MetMalaysia issues warning for wide swath of peninsula, parts of Sabah and Sarawak

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 16 — Thunderstorms, heavy rain, and strong winds are expected to affect much of Peninsular Malaysia, as well as several areas in Sarawak and Sabah, until 7pm today, according to the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia).

In a warning issued at 4.30pm, MetMalaysia said the severe weather is expected to hit several areas in Kedah (Yan, Kuala Muda, Sik, Baling, Kulim, and Bandar Baharu) and Penang.

In Perak, the affected areas are Kerian, Larut, Matang dan Selama, Hulu Perak, Kuala Kangsar, Manjung, Kinta, Central Perak, and Kampar. In , Tumpat, Pasir Mas, Kota Bharu, Jeli, Tanah Merah, Bachok, Machang, Pasir Puteh, and Kuala Krai are expected to be affected, as well as the entire state of Terengganu.

Similar weather conditions are also forecast in Pahang (Cameron Highlands, Lipis, Jerantut, Temerloh, Maran, and Kuantan), (Sabak Bernam, Kuala , Klang, Gombak, Petaling, Kuala Langat, Hulu Langat, and Sepang), as well as Kuala Lumpur, , and Johor (Batu Pahat, Kluang, and Pontian).

Meanwhile, warnings have been issued for Kuching, Serian, Samarahan, Sri Aman, Betong, Sarikei, Sibu, Mukah, Kapit (including Song and Kapit), Bintulu, Miri, and Limbang in Sarawak. In Sabah, the alert covers areas in the interior, including Sipitang, Tenom, and Beaufort, as well as the west coast (Papar). — Bernama
