KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 16 — The government has pledged thorough, transparent and professional investigations into criminal cases such as rape and murder that occur within school premises.

Buletin TV3 reported that Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said public confidence — particularly among parents who send their children to school — must be strengthened by ensuring that perpetrators of such crimes, including those committed in schools, are brought to justice.

He said parents were right to be concerned about school safety following recent incidents involving fatal stabbings, rape, and students falling from buildings.

“When children are involved, we apply the Child Act.

“However, if the act involves offences under the Penal Code such as Section 302 (murder), 375 (rape) or 377B (unnatural offences), these provisions will guide the investigation accordingly.

“The key is to reinforce public confidence, especially among parents.

“If it involves a criminal incident in a school, the perpetrators will be prosecuted under existing laws.

“We are committed to investigations that are high-quality, transparent and professional — that is what the public expects from us,” he reportedly said during the handover ceremony for the Muallim District Police Headquarters (IPD) project here yesterday evening.

The handover of the IPD Muallim, completed in June at a total cost of RM85 million, was also witnessed by Public Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi.
