PUTRAJAYA: The Opposition is “ignorant” over their claims on RM600mil Khazanah Nasional Berhad allocation to revitalise the heritage buildings, including Carcosa Seri Negara in Kuala Lumpur, says Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
The Prime Minister emphasised that Khazanah’s investment aimed to safeguard the country’s history and heritage.
“They do not understand, we are preserving the Malay heritage and history from Dataran Merdeka, Kereta Api Tanah Melayu, the Daya Bumi building up to Carcosa Seri Negara.
“It is as if the buildings collectively resemble a ‘heritage park.’ Kuala Lumpur is renowned for its modern technology and vibrant culture, and when we start investing there, it will attract further investments to expand around it,” he said during his address at the Finance Ministry’s monthly assembly here on Wednesday (Oct 15).
Earlier this week, the Opposition Leader, Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin, had questioned the government’s decision to announce an RM600mil investment by Khazanah for the restoration of the Carcosa Seri Negara buildings.
Hamzah said when debating the Supply Bill 2026 in the Dewan Rakyat, he described the move as a “deviation” from the true purpose and role of Government-Linked Investment Companies (GLICs), which are meant to strengthen economic resilience and generate long-term returns for the people.
