Johor health officials assure public influenza situation remains stable despite nine clusters

JOHOR BAHRU, Oct 14 — The health authorities advised the public to avoid panic and to practice safe flu etiquette following the recent influenza outbreak involving nine clusters here.

Johor health director Dr Mokhtar Pungut @ Ahmad assured the public that the situation is under control and there is no cause for alarm.

He appealed to those showing symptoms to seek treatment.

“If you have symptoms, please seek immediate treatment and practice safe distancing etiquette in addition to putting-on a face mask.

“If it involves an affected institution or school, they must immediately inform the nearest district health department so that we can take immediate control measures,” he told reporters after officiating the Johor Bahru Mentari Centre in conjunction with the 2025 World Mental Health Day celebration at UTC here today.

Dr Mokhtar explained that influenza is actually a common ailment, similar to the flu.

However, he stressed the importance of practicing safe flu etiquette if exhibiting symptoms, such as social distancing, covering one’s coughs and sneezes, and wearing a face mask.

Last Saturday, it was reported that the influenza situation in Johor is under control, with nine clusters recorded and no new ones detected.

One of the clusters involves a Special Education Integrated Programme (PPKI) class at Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Taman Permas Jaya 2.

Johor Health and Environment Committee chairman Ling Tian Soon said the overall situation remains under control.

Last Saturday, it was reported that the influenza situation in Johor is under control, with nine clusters recorded and no new ones detected.
