KUALA LUMPUR: Bersatu has sacked five leaders, including Tasek Gelugor MP Datuk Wan Saiful Wan Jan, for violating the party’s code of conduct.
Machang MP Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal, meanwhile, had his membership suspended for one term.
The other four who were sacked are all division chiefs: Mohd Azrudin Mhd Idris (Hang Tuah Jaya), Mohd Faizal Asmar (Pengerang), Mohd Fadhli Ismail (Ipoh Timur) and Mohd Isa Mohd Saidi (Ampang).
Bersatu’s disciplinary board said any of them may file an appeal within 14 days.
“The Bersatu disciplinary board has made its decision based on investigations and consideration that is free, fair and impartial.
“The board also urges members to always abide by the party constitution and code of ethics and conduct in order to preserve the good name of Bersatu,” it said in a statement on Tuesday (Oct 14).

The board said it decided to launch investigations after it received written complaints from members regarding breaches of the party’s code of conduct and constitution.
“We called up the respondents for a hearing on Oct 8 and reached our decision based on Article 22.5 of the party constitution.
“They were found to have gone against Article 9.1.4 of the Bersatu Constitution and Code of Ethics and Conduct,” the statement read.
The Star has reached out to Wan Saiful, Wan Ahmad Fayhsal and Bersatu’s disciplinary board for comment.
The suspension and sacking came amid speculation that the group was involved in a movement collecting statutory declarations aimed at toppling Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin as party president.
