A man was caught on camera running amok whilst holding a meat cleaver in Taman Jasa, Ijok in Kuala Selangor on Sunday afternoon (Oct 12).
The atmosphere in the residential area became chaotic when the man suddenly began acting violently whilst wielding the cleaver.
Kuala Selangor OCPD Supt Azaharudin Tajuddin said his department received a call from members of the public at approximately 6pm informing them about a man acting violently and attempting to attack residents in the residential area concerned.
“Acting on the information, a team of officers from Bestari Jaya Police Station rushed to the location and found the suspect screaming whilst holding a meat cleaver,” he said in a statement on Monday (Oct 13).
“Police officers managed to calm the situation before detaining the man without any injuries occurring to any party,” he added.
A 30-second video circulating on social media depicted the tense moments when police were forced to draw their pistols to calm a man acting violently whilst holding a meat cleaver during the incident.
Several police officers arrived at the scene and directed their firearms towards the suspect as a precautionary measure to avoid any untoward incident.
Supt Azaharudin said the suspect is now being remanded for six days starting Monday until Saturday (Oct 18) to assist investigations under Section 307 of the Penal Code for attempted murder.
He also urged members of the public who have information to contact the Operations Room of Kuala Selangor District Police Headquarters (IPD) at 03-3289 1222 or any nearby police station.
