
KUALA LUMPUR: Thunderstorms, heavy rain and strong winds are expected across seven states and several divisions in Sarawak, with warnings in effect until 9am on Tuesday (Oct 14).
The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) said the affected states were Perlis, Kedah, Penang, Perak, Kelantan, Terengganu, Pahang, and Sarawak.
Perlis is on alert for severe weather.
In Kedah, the districts of Langkawi, Kubang Pasu, Kota Setar, Pokok Sena, Padang Terap, Yan, Pendang and Kuala Muda are under the warning.
In Penang, the southwestern and northeastern areas are expected to be affected.
In Perak, areas such as Larut, Matang Dan Selama, Kuala Kangsar, Kinta, Kampar and Batang Padang are forecasted to experience adverse conditions.
In Kelantan, districts including Tumpat, Pasir Mas, Kota Bharu, Jeli, Bachok, Kuala Krai and Gua Musang are anticipated to be affected.
In Terengganu, areas such as Marang, Dungun and Kemaman are on alert.
In Pahang, districts including Cameron Highlands, Lipis, Jerantut and Kuantan are expected to experience severe weather conditions.
In Sarawak, the divisions of Kuching, Sarikei, Sibu and Mukah are under the warning, with areas such as Tanjung Manis, Daro and Matu in Mukah forecasted to be affected.
MetMalaysia issues these warnings when thunderstorms with rainfall intensity exceeding 20mm per hour are imminent or expected to last more than an hour.
These are short-term warnings, valid for no more than six hours from issuance.
