KUALA LUMPUR: Youths should take charge in fighting corruption in the country as the government seeks to consolidate its finances and plug leakages, says Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ibrahim.

said savings from rationalising subsidies, curbing corruption, leakages and smuggling have enabled the government to collect up to RM15.5bil in revenue over the two years.

“This is why I have been talking about governance. I need the support of the youth. You must take the lead,” said during the International Young Future Leaders’ Summit at World Trade Centre KL (WTCKL) on Monday (Oct 13).

According to Anwar, Malaysia was expected to save RM2.5bil a year with Budi 95, to accumulate RM5bil in revenue through a new electricity tariff, and to gain benefits of over RM1bil after withdrawing chicken subsidy.

Because of that, he said, Budget 2026 could offer free education, loan repayment exemptions, and a focus on training, including TVET, reskilling, retaining, and upskilling.

On Friday (Oct 10), when announcing Budget 2026, Anwar said the government would introduce the National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN) Free Education incentive for 5,800 students from low-income families.

He also said there would be a loan-repayment exemption for 6,000 first-class honours bachelor’s degree graduates from B40 and M40 families.

At the same time, the Education Ministry received the largest allocation of RM66.2bil.
