Sabah PKR Youth chief says no dissent within party over candidate selection

3566436KOTA KINABALU: There is no internal dissent within Sabah over candidates for the upcoming 17th Sabah State Election, says the party’s state youth chief Zaidi Jatil.

He dismissed a news report that over a dozen division chiefs are unhappy over the possibility of outsiders being fielded in the election.

He said that a meeting took place in Tanjung Aru with party division chiefs on Oct 10.

“It was to listen to grassroots views. We stand firm on the principles of inclusivity and consensus,” said Zaidi In a statement on Sunday (Oct 12).

He said he represented the Sabah committee at the meeting where division chiefs said locals should be consulted for the candidate-selection process.

“The recent meeting between the Sabah PKR council and division leaders were conducted in a spirit of harmony and solidarity and was not confrontational as portrayed.

“Sabah PKR remains stable, united and focused,” he said.

It is learnt that division leaders raised concerns over the selection of candidates by the PKR central committee.

However, PKR secretary general Datuk Seri Saiffudin Nasution was reported as saying that they had yet to finalise any candidates as seat negotiations are ongoing.

Pakatan Harapan, which PKR is part of, is still in negotiations with Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) on a seat sharing formula. GRS wants to contest 55 seats and allow for Pakatan to contest the remaining 18 seats.

Pakatan and Barisan Nasional have more or less concluded a pact, with a few overlapping seats to resolve.

GRS and Barisan will contest against each other but will not go against Pakatan in the coming state polls.
