National men’s doubles shuttlers Choong Hon Jian-Haikal Nazri caused a major upset at the Arctic Open by defeating world No 4 pair Kim Aastrup-Anders Skaarup Rasmussen from Denmark in straight games.
The Malaysian pair, ranked 43 rungs below the Danes, pulled off the stunning win with a score of 23-21, 21-15 in a match lasting 39 minutes at the Energia Areena in Vantaa, Finland today.
It was the first encounter between the two pairs in international tournaments.
Hon Jian-Haikal even trailed 8-14 in the first game before winning it.
However, a tough semi-final match awaits the Malaysians tomorrow as they will take on Ben Lane and Sean Vendy from England.
