PETALING JAYA:

The wildlife and national parks department (Perhilitan) is looking into reports of tiger roars being heard at Ukay Perdana in Ampang, .

Perhilitan director-general Abdul Kadir Abu Hashim said officers armed with shotguns were deployed to the area with policemen yesterday to conduct a special operation after reports were filed by residents of the Sri Baiduri apartment building there.

“Perhilitan officers themselves also heard tiger roars twice when they were patrolling the location. The operation to track down the animal is ongoing, but no tracks have been found so far,” he said, according to Harian Metro.

Kadir said officers will return to continue patrolling the area and to install cameras to determine if a tiger is present there.

He advised members of the public against venturing into the forest area behind the Sri Baiduri apartments, and to immediately report to Perhilitan if they notice any suspicious figures or sounds.

Sri Baiduri’s management also advised residents against hanging around the open area near the forest, where children often play football. They were also urged to ensure their doors and windows are closed and locked.
