PETALING JAYA: Owners of vehicles older than 20 years will soon be eligible for a RM4,000 incentive to assist them in switching to new national cars, says Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
Anwar said the new grant, introduced in collaboration with national carmakers, was meant to encourage the scrapping of overly-aged vehicles that could pose safety risks to their drivers and others on the road.
“This grant’s goal is to encourage these owners to scrap their old vehicles and purchase new national cars, as older, outdated vehicles can pose a higher risk of accidents,” he said in the Budget 2026 announcement at the Dewan Rakyat on Friday (Oct 10)
He said the initiative would be among several preventive measures aimed at reducing the risk of road accidents in the country.
