PETALING JAYA: The consultation fees for general practitioners (GPs) and on-call allowance (ETAP) for government doctors, which has stagnated for years, will finally increase, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announces.
During his Budget 2026 speech, Anwar acknowledged that the consultation fees for GPs were last reviewed in 2006.
“The government has agreed to reset the consultation fees to range from RM10 to RM80, compared to the previous range of RM10 to RM35. This provides more flexibility according to the level of service offered, while maintaining a minimum fee that is affordable for the public,” he said during his Budget 2026 speech.
Anwar also announced that the ETAP, which has not been reviewed since 2011, will be increased by about 40% effective Oct 1, 2025.
“To appreciate the dedication of medical officers, specialist medical officers, and dental officers, I am pleased to announce that the On-Call Duty Allowance (ETAP), which has not been reviewed since 2011, will be increased by about 40% effective Oct 1,2025, with an additional allocation of RM120mil per year,” he said.
For example, a specialist doctor on active on-call duty on a holiday will receive an increased ETAP rate of RM350 compared to RM250 previously,” he added.
