Immigration dept detains 24 foreigners using public buses to evade checks in Kelantan

KOTA BHARU, Oct 10 — A total of 24 foreign nationals were detained by the Immigration Department of Malaysia in a Joint Operation with the Road Transport Department (JPJ) conducted at the JPJ Mentara Enforcement Station in Gua Musang yesterday.

Its Director, Mohamed Yusoff Khan Mohd Hassan, said the operation, which began at 8 am, involved 40 enforcement officers from both agencies and was carried out following intelligence and close monitoring in the area.

He stated that investigations found the modus operandi of the foreign nationals was to use public bus services to avoid being checked and detained by the authorities.

“As a result of the operation, the department successfully detained five Bangladeshi men, five Indian men, two Pakistani men, one Indonesian man, three Myanmar men, seven Indonesian women, and one Indian and one Bangladeshi woman respectively.

“All of them were detained on suspicion of committing offences under Section 6(1)©, Section 15(1)©, and Section 57(1)(d) of the Immigration Act 1959/63, and are currently placed at the Tanah Merah Immigration Depot for further investigation,” he said in a statement today. — Bernama
