IPOH: Over RM1.4mil worth of unregistered cosmetic and supplement products as well as two lorries have been seized during an enforcement operation at the Sungai Perak rest area on the North-South Expressway.

Northern Brigade General Operations Force (GOF) commander Senior Asst Comm Shahrum Hashim said a tip-off led to a raid where two local men in their 30s were arrested.

He said the two lorries carrying boxes of unregistered products from a factory in Jitra, Kedah were also confiscated.

“Initial checks revealed that the seized products did not carry the required hologram stickers or registration numbers from the Health Ministry,” he said in a statement on Thursday (Oct 9).

SAC Shahrum said among the items seized were drink supplements valued at RM1.1mil and vitamin C tablets worth over RM100,000.

The two lorries involved were estimated to be worth RM220,000, bringing the total value of the seizure to RM1.42mil.

He said the case is being investigated under the Sale of Drugs Act 1952 and the Control of Drugs and Cosmetics Regulations 1984, which prohibit the manufacture, sale, supply, import, possession, or distribution of unregistered medicinal products.

“Those convicted face a fine of up to RM25,000 or three years’ jail for the first offence, and up to RM50,000 or five years’ jail for subsequent offences.

“Companies may be fined up to RM50,000 for a first offence and RM100,000 for subsequent offences,” he added.

SAC Shahrum said the seized products and vehicles were handed over to the Perak pharmaceutical enforcement division for further investigation and both suspects would be detained for questioning.
