BERA: A Felda settler discovered a human skeleton, believed to be that of a man reported missing about a year ago, at Felda Bukit Mendi near here yesterday.
The 51-year-old settler was clearing the bushes some 100m behind his house when he discovered the remains scattered, with a shirt, trousers, a jacket and an old phone lying nearby.
Bera district police chief Superintendent Zulkiflee Nazir said the man, who was spraying pesticides, found the skeletal remains among some bushes near a swamp area.
“The man assumed the object was a mannequin and informed a friend of the discovery. They decided to lodge a report before policemen went to the site at about 11.50pm.
“The remains were sent to the Bera hospital’s forensic unit for DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid) testing and to identify the cause of death,” he said in a statement today.
Zulkiflee said police had, in July last year, received a missing person report involving a 48-year-old man from Felda Bukit Mendi.
He said close family members have confirmed that the remains belong to the missing man based on the clothing found in the area, but police were waiting for further confirmation from the hospital.
