Eligible for BUDI95 but didn’t get RM1.99 per litre rate for subsidised RON95 petrol? The Deputy Minister of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) Datuk Dr Fuziah Salleh revealed that eligible motorists who ended up paying for unsubsidised RON95 due to system glitches or outages will be able to file for a claim starting from 9th October onward.
This comes after complaints from motorists reportedly being charged the unsubsidised price of RM2.60 per litre to due technical glitches at some petrol stations.
Individuals and businesses can apply for refunds for unsubsidised RON95 petrol purchases at KPDN’s MySubsidi portal starting 9th October. This is for purchases made between 30th September to 31st October and you’ll need to attach copies of the receipt as proof of purchase.
The Ministry added that businesses are required to be registered with the Subsidised Petrol Control Scheme (SKPS) and produce proof of fleet card application on or before 31st October to be eligible.
Once the claim is verified and approved by the ministry, the refunds are expected to be credited to the bank account within 15 working days.
Dr Fuziah revealed that registration for subsidised petrol for businesses under the SKPS had received lukewarm response. She added that only 25% of eligible businesses with vehicles have registered with the ministry so far.
Dr Fuziah said companies who are late to carry out the registration can still claim the subsidy backdated from 1st October as long as they produce receipts for their petrol purchase. She hopes more will register under the SKPS promptly.
BUDI95 is open to all Malaysians with a MyKad and a valid driver’s licence. Users can either pay the pump or cashier, and present the MyKad to enjoy the BUDI95 subsidy price of RM1.99 per litre. Alternatively, they can use apps such as Setel, CaltexGo and Touch ‘n Go eWallet, to enjoy BUDI95 without presenting the physical MyKad. Each Malaysian is given a monthly BUDI95 quota of 300 litres.
Take note that the price of RON95 at the pump will always display the unsubsidised rate even after your BUDI95 eligibility is verified. As a result, the total price at the pump will be higher than the subsidised amount. (e.g. Preset RM10 but the pump displays RM13.07) For clarity, consumers are urged to check the receipt which will show a breakdown for both both unsubsidised and subsidised prices.
At the moment, RON95 petrol is strictly for Malaysian registered vehicles only. A foreigner driving a Malaysian vehicle can purchase RON95 fuel without subsidy at RM2.60 per litre. However, foreign vehicles (even driven by Malaysians) are only allowed to refuel using RON97.
If you want to keep a close eye on your RON95 subsidy usage, users can check their BUDI95 quota and transaction history via the BUDI95 portal. All BUDI95 usage under your Mykad will be listed along with the date and time, transaction amount and location of the petrol station.
