DAP will defend all its six seats in the upcoming Sabah state election.
DAP secretary-general Loke Siew Fook said the party will also contest one or two additional seats, Bernama reported.
It was previously reported that DAP had identified at least two state seats in the interior that it could contest.
“For DAP in Sabah, we don’t have many seats. We have the incumbent seats, the six that we won in the last state election.
“This time, we will defend all six seats plus one or two more seats that we have negotiated and have discussed to ensure a joint victory,” he said when opening the 23rd Perak DAP annual convention in Ipoh today.
In the 16th state election, DAP contested seven seats and won six – in Luyang, Likas, Kapayan, Sri Tanjong, Elopura and Tanjong Papat.
However, two of the assemblymen – from Elopura and Sri Tanjong – joined Warisan in 2022.
Speaking to reporters later on whether DAP would tighten its candidate selection following the duo’s departure, Loke said the party was not worried about this as it has other competent leaders.
He said the DAP constitution now has a clause stating that any elected representative hopping to another party would be disqualified as a party member, and a by-election would be held.
