A labourer was sentenced to six months’ jail by the magistrates’ court in Kuala Nerus today after pleading guilty to trespassing at an inn and peeping at a woman entrepreneur in a bathroom.
The incident had recently gone viral on social media, Bernama reported.
Magistrate Noor Mazrinie Mahmood handed down the sentence after 29-year-old Ahmad Farhan Rizal Abdullah pleaded guilty.
Farhan was accused of peeping at a 36-year-old woman with the intent to outrage her modesty at an inn in Manir, near Kuala Nerus, at 12.30am on Aug 26.
The offence under Section 509 of the Penal Code carries a maximum penalty of five years’ imprisonment, a fine, or both.
Farhan was also charged with criminal trespass for unlawfully entering the premises used as a residence. This charge under Section 448 carries a maximum penalty of three years’ imprisonment, a fine of up to RM5,000, or both.
The court sentenced Farhan to six months on the peeping charge and three months for trespassing, with the sentences to run concurrently from the date of conviction.
Kuala Terengganu police chief Azli Noor said the victim and her husband, from Ampang, Selangor, had rented the inn for four days for a holiday and to film a commercial featuring Malay traditional attire.
He said the victim spotted a man’s silhouette holding a mobile phone outside the bathroom window while bathing.
