PETALING JAYA:

The two men arrested after a scuffle at a protest outside the US embassy yesterday have been released on police bail.

In a video shared with FMT by Kuala Lumpur police chief Fadil Marsus, the men are seen being informed of the conditions of their bail and cautioned not to repeat their offence.

“I need you to understand that I do not mind if you want to hold an assembly. But when there is provocation against the police, that becomes a problem.

“I am Muslim and Malay, I also support Palestine. But not with such actions,” the police officer says.

Yesterday, Fadil said that the men, aged 23 and 32, were arrested for obstructing policemen in discharging their duties.

He said the situation escalated after some participants began blocking traffic flow on Jalan Tun Razak, leading to a scuffle with a policeman who was elbowed in the face and suffered minor injuries.

The case is being investigated under Section 186 of the Penal Code for obstructing a public servant in the discharge of his public functions, which provides for up to two years’ imprisonment or a fine of up to RM10,000.
