KOTA KINABALU, Oct 2 — Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor today expressed deep concern over the detention of two Sabah natives, Zizi Kirana and Sul Aidil, who were part of a humanitarian aid mission to Gaza, and called for their immediate release.
The two, who hail from Semporna, were among Malaysians detained by Israeli forces after their vessel, part of the Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF), was intercepted in international waters early this morning.
In a Facebook post, Hajiji said the courage of the two activists made the state proud and affirmed his confidence in the federal government’s diplomatic efforts to secure their freedom.
“The Sabah State Government is deeply concerned over the detention of our fellow Sabahans, Zizi Kirana and Sul Aidil, who joined the humanitarian mission to Gaza. Their courage makes us all proud,” he said, adding he was confident that the prime minister and foreign minister would pursue the “best diplomatic steps” for their release.
He also urged all Sabahans, regardless of background, to unite in solidarity and pray for the safety and release of all the detained volunteers.
“Our prayers are with the safety and release of those who are fighting for humanity,” he added.
