Cops nab fourth suspect in fatal hunting trip case

IPOH: Police have detained a 50-year-old man over the incident where the body of a man who was shot was found abandoned by the roadside in Kampung Selamat, Semanggol near Bagan Serai.

Perak police chief Comm Datuk Noor Hisam Nordin said the man was arrested at the Kerian district police station on Tuesday (Sept 30) at about 4.30pm.

“We’ve seized a mobile phone during the arrest.”

“He will be remanded for seven days to facilitate investigation under Section 302 of the Penal Code,” he told reporters after attending a police retiree appreciation ceremony at the police officers’ mess hall here on Thursday (Oct 2).

“The man was found with no previous convictions or positive for drugs,” he added.

It was reported that a 43-year-old man was shot during a hunting trip with three individuals in Batu Caves, , before his body was transported and left by the roadside in Kampung Selamat on Monday (Sept 29).

Investigations found that the victim was believed to have been mistaken as an animal and was shot.

The three individuals, aged 32 to 36, who were arrested on Monday (Sept 29), are being remanded until Oct 6.

Comm Noor Hisam said two of the three arrested men were found to have narcotics-related cases and tested positive for drugs.

“They are also being investigated under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act,” he said.

He added that a post mortem on the victim found the cause of death to be gunshot wounds to the chest.
