KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 2 — Two brothers appeared in the Sibu Magistrates’ Court today, facing charges over the killing of a nightclub DJ in Kapit on September 18.
No plea was recorded from the two accused, aged 36 and 30, after the charges were read out tentatively before Magistrate Oon Kork Chern, according to a report published in BuletinTV3.
Magistrate Kork Chern set November 13 for the next mention at the Kapit Court and denied bail for both accused.
According to the charges, the 36-year-old elder brother is accused of murdering the 33-year-old victim, while his younger brother is charged with abetting the killing.
The first accused faces charges under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which carries the death penalty or imprisonment of not less than 30 years and not more than 40 years, along with a minimum of 12 strokes of the cane if the death penalty is not imposed.
The second accused is charged under Section 109 of the Penal Code read together with Section 302 for abetting the crime.
The offences were alleged to have occurred at around 10.30pm on September 18 at the sidewalk area of a nightclub on Jalan Tun Jugah, Kapit.
The prosecution was conducted by Deputy Public Prosecutor Haris Danial Mohamed Hassan, while both accused were unrepresented by lawyers.
