KUCHING: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ibrahim has made a clear stand on Israel’s detention of Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF) volunteers, including several Malaysians, says Tan Sri Abang Johari Openg.

The Sarawak Premier said he would leave it to Federal Government leaders to comment further on the situation.

“Actually, this flotilla is a humanitarian visit. They want to help the victims, so let’s see what the United Nations says.

“Sarawak is small; I cannot comment. But has made our position very clear,” he told reporters when met after the exchange ceremony of an agreement between the Sarawak government, federal Finance Ministry and the World Bank here on Thursday (Oct 2).

had demanded the release of the GSF volunteers, including at least 12 Malaysians, detained by Israeli forces who intercepted the flotilla early on Thursday.

He said the government would do its utmost to secure the release of Malaysians currently in detention.

“I urge the immediate release of all Malaysian and international activists and volunteers. This is a humanitarian mission carrying unarmed civilians and much-needed aid for the people of Gaza,” Anwar said.

He added that the safety of Malaysians was a top priority and the government would not remain silent when their rights and dignity were violated.
